AARP/UHC discount

This year is my first year with AARP/UHC Plan F. I was required to become an AARP member in order to enroll in this policy. There was a 30% discount applied for this first year. The discount is reduced by 3% for each year following until it's complete gone.

I have already received the Annual Notice of Rate letter that shows my 2015 rate still has the discount (now reduced by 3%). I plan to drop the AARP membership (it expires this month), and it's my understanding that as long I as pay the premiums on the policy it will continue. However, I read a post from a few years ago in this forum that implied the discount was due to AARP membership. If that's the case, then I would expect the discount would be dropped if I drop the AARP membership. Does anyone know if the discount continues even if the AARP membership has been dropped?

Thanks,
Tim

Why don't you ask AARP? That would be the only definite way to find out. I doubt that you'll find anyone here who has dropped their AARP membership after enrolling in their UNC backed medicare supplement plan.

I find my AARP membership saves me much more in discounts on various things than the low annual membership fee of $16 per year (less for multi year renewals)

Taj,

I believe you can drop your AARP membership without it affecting your supplement rate. You just have to be a member in order to enroll into the supplement. The discount AARP gives is not attached to your membership so that should not be affected as well. This is my understanding of how it works, but I don't work for AARP so don't take it as gospel.

Good Luck

Matt
