Big problem and I thought someone could shed light on my situation as I am new to all this.
OK, so I work and am not going on SS anytime soon. I did go to my local SS office in June when I turned 65 of this
year just to see what I would get when I did retire. They asked me then if I wanted part B and I said
no. However at the end/middle of August after reviewing my work plan which is through UH I realized part B was better for just a little more, The 3 plans offered at work are not very good and not the same as what I had with
another company which was also UH.
Anyway...I decided to call Medicare and sign up for part B (which is what the girl at SS told me to do in June, if I decided I wanted it. So I talked to a lady and she said ok and took my information and at the end informed me it would not start for 3 months (I think she said), I told her I wanted it to start in Sept and she said she would see what she could do, if she could back date it. (keep in mind at this time I did not know that if you are not on SS they bill you in 3 months increments and to pay monthly you have to do the easy pay from your checking, none of this was ever mentioned to me,nor did I see it on their site). So a couple of days later she leaves me a voice mail saying she got it back dated and it would start in Sept.
About a week later I got my new SS card that had part b on it, did not notice it said start date JULY. I had cancelled my work insurance the first week of SEPT. But when I did notice I called and they said you are charge for AUG also. I explained to them what happened and they said I needed to go to my local office, have them cancel it and start a new and that was the only way to not get charged for Aug also. The SS was no help and he said the girl back dated it at my request even though I told them it was suppose to start SEPT. He said even if I cancelled it that I will have to pay what is due! I left. Then last week I get a bill for $804 that says it is for July thur Dec of 2018 and due by 9-25-18! Now mind you I did not even call to start it until the end of AUG and plainly asked that it start in SEPT and was still paying through work until then, and have never used it!
Yesterday after much phone run around the girl said nothing she can do as they are Medicare and I had to of been talking to SS when I called to start it, as they do the start of it, even though that guy at SS did not say that and basically acted like it was my word against there's since it was done by phone. Even that I still don't get adding July's on there. The girl is going to escalate it to someone that will get back to me within 7 days. What a joke, I cannot believe they expect me to pay for service that I did not request. I told them they could check with UH and see I was paying there up to SEPT. I am very sorry I even called to start it up as fell it is stealing and had no ideaI was not able to pay monthly because I am not on SS. .
Any insight to this would be great.
