Cataract Lenses Not Covered By Medicare

I just had a client call and explain to me that they are getting cataract surgery. They were advised that Medicare would not pay for the insertion of any corrective lenses during this procedure. They were advised it would cost them $4700 to have the lenses implanted. Has any else had this experience with cataract surgery and corrective lenses?

Medicare will cover cataract surgery and "basic" intraocular lenses (IOL). Medicare does not cover multifocal IOL as this is considered an optional upgrade. The $4700 additional cost is in the ballpark for multifocal IOL.
