delay part d

ModelNo.A1

New Member
Someone please tell me if I have this right. I am signed up to start Medicare June 1 (turning 65 in June). I can wait no more than 63 days past my initial enrollment period (March - Sept 2015) to start Plan D without any penalty. In other words, I have through November to sign up for Plan D with no penalty. Thanks for the help.

Uh, well...sort of...You will need to sign up by the end of September to avoid the penalty. Technically, you have the 63 days, but you really don't because you can't enroll then because you will be out of your IEP. You can enroll in November during AEP for a Jan1 effective date which puts you out of the 63 days! Clear as mud? That's Medicare for you! At least you're aware of it and thinking about it. Many people end up missing the boat on that one.
