Group Cancellation

I recently switched my medigap policy to AARP/UHC which is a group plan. I understand a group plan can be cancelled at any time by the provider. My question is, under these conditions if this happens would this qualify me to be able switch to another policy without medical underwriting?

Medicare uses the term "community rated" instead of group plan. If a plan is cancelled, you have the guaranteed issue right to buy any Medigap Plan A, B, C, F, K, or L from any carrier in your state without medical underwriting. You can also apply for the other available plan options but may be subject to medical underwriting depending on the carrier and state regulations.

Group plans and Community rated are 2 different things. Group plans are most often plans provided by employer retirement plans or union coverages. Community rated refers to how the premiums are billed. In a community rated plan everyone that has that plan pays the same rates. (however UHC/AARP can have discount programs to lower premiums depending on the age you join) If this is the type a plan you have then Yes you would have a guaranteed issue into another supplement policy. Typically the A, B, C, F, K, or L.

Anytime you are forced to choose a different plan due to no fault of your own you would have this guarantee.
