Hospital Bed: Medicare B

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem my mom is having. She's stage 4 lung cancer, diagnosed 2 years ago and ended her chemo treatment 6 months ago. She needs to sleep at an incline in order to breathe. We requested a hospital bed, but the bed that was brought over by the DME supplier (through hospice) looks like an execution bed. It looks nothing like a hospital bed. It's brown and metal, also very narrow. Here is an example:

Moving her from her queen to this has really upset everyone. After some research, I see that there are much better quality beds but we do not know how to go about getting a better bed. Something like this:

We are in the Atlanta suburbs and under a competitive bid plan, but she is also already in Hospice. I have looked at other companies in the area and am not seeing the bed she wants. Can I request from elsewhere? Will medicare pay? And, can we circumvent Hospice provider and choose a separate DME supplier from the one they use?

Thanks in advance for any help!
