My director is insisting that when we see Part B patients, it is a CMS guideline that patients be billed for 53 minutes. I have been disputing this with him firstly, the time spent should be based on their progress and the therapist should make that decision based on their plan for treatment. I usually start seeing patients for higher minutes in the beginning and then reduce the minutes (e.g. 30 mins) as they progress, they also gives the patient more sessions and a greater chance of reaching their goal. I would be grateful if anyone could give me their experience, or if they know of any guidelines that I could access to clarify this situation. From all of the information I have personally been able to glean, there is no definitive guideline saying that a person has to be seen of a certain amount of time or modalities per session.

Thank you looking forward to your responses.
