Minor changes for Medicare in 2012 include better coverage for the Part D prescription drug program, and the shrinking of the "donut" hole. Instead of paying 100% of the cost of your drugs when you were in the donut hole, in 2012 you have to pay 50% for brand name drugs and you get a 14% discount on generics. The donut hole will be gradually phased out until it is gone for good in 2019.

In addition 2012 brings some new preventative programs this year giving them free wellness visits for certain items.

Good to see they are shrinking the donut hole. I never understood it anyway, but I will be glad when it's gone. The prescription drug program of Medicare seems pretty good to me when compared to the private insurance I used to have. I understand it is pretty stable also and that's good news.
