Now they are saying that the Medicare Trust Fund will be depleted in 2024, which is 5 years sooner than they said last year! In addition they say that Social Security reserves will be depleted in 2036, which is 1 year sooner than earlier stated. The economy has had something to do with it since taxes collected are lower for both programs.
There is still time to "fix" both programs if something is done soon. Just don't completely dismantle them as we have come to know them and start over. The program didn't "break" in the last year or two, it took many years. So let's don't expect to fix it with one drastic action, but instead institute smaller measures to get rid of what's wrong with the current programs, while keeping what is right.
