Medicare Overview

Medicare is the US government's health insurance program for those 65 and older and those under 65 with certain disabilities.

You can not be turned down for Medicare! Your medical history does not matter, if you meet the other requirements you will be accepted into the Medicare program.

In addition, most Doctors and Hospitals accept Medicare. They know they will get their payment for the services they render so accepting Medicare is a winning situation for them.

So relax, it's not that hard to understand after you get into it and there is always help available!

You can sign up for Medicare online via the Social Security website here:

Mack, I went to the link you listed but was told I cannot use that application because I was not 65.

I understand that since I am disabled, I qualify for Medicare but, cannot find anyplace online with an application for my circumstances.

Can you help?

Hi Kenny,

The link I furnished is the one I used to sign up with about 3 months before I turned 65. I was not aware that it could not be used for every person wanting to sign up for Medicare. So in your case I would advise you phone Medicare and ask them if you can sign up on line and if so where is the link, and if not how you can go about signing up.

Thank you, Mack,

I've tried everything for the exact contact info for what I need and I'm getting the distinct idea they are all going to just give me the run around or ignore me. I even tried the Florida Governors office repeatedly who gave irrelevant replies and were no help at all, unlike the last very helpful Governors administration here.

I tried this link you mentioned before https: //secure.ssa. gov/iCLM/rib but cannot use it because I am not 65 and I get stopped right after answering that question. I really do believe this is all by design to keep the benefit from me but my handicap has forced me due to the poor treatment as a Medicaid patient as well as what you mention, A lot of Dr's won't take Medicaid.

Thanks for you input and if I still run into problems, I'll continue to check back to see if anyone can advise.

IOW, I will be back.:)

Kenny,

You qualify for Medicare on your 25th month of disability. They will automatically send you a Medicare card with your effective dates for Medicare Part A and Part B. Be aware that when that happens you will be charged the $99.90 monthly fee for Part B. You may have that paid for by the state based on your income and assets. I hope this helps.

Matt, thanks for th help. I have been disabled due to a bout with Polio since 3 months of age and am only now perusing this. My problem is no one will tell me where to apply and when I email I get the runaround from the Governors office to the Social Securityu office where the Governor told be to apply online. All their applications are for 65 and up, there is nothing there for me.

And yes, your post does help solidify the fact I do qualify but, getting it is another matter alltogether.

Kenny,

Medicare receives their information from Social Security. Are you receiving SSI (disability benefits from Social Security?) That's what it is tied to. Once you receive disability benefits for 24 months you are eligible for Medicare. If you are not receiving SSI, then that is the problem. You can apply here: http://www.ssa.gov/pgm/ssi.htm.

Matt, I have been on SSI since the early 1990's and after goping back to the site you mentioned, (the same site where I have sent emails inquiring about this and just got the runaround and finally they just ignored me when I pinned them down for exact answers) and I found the following at this link on the site.http:// ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/155 (I had to put a gap in the link so it would post)

"Do I automatically receive Medicare benefits if I'm eligible for disability benefits?

You will receive Medicare after you receive disability benefits for 24 months."

The link explains further.

I've evidently been getting robbed out of the benefit fior the past, nearly 25years.

Can someone please tell me what the Medicare benefit entails, is there a cash payment and does anyone know of a legal service of any kind that can help me get the benefit and any past benefits I might be due?

It's been clear to me that I've just been getting the put off from everyone and it's going to take some kind of legal measure to get this but, at least we are getting somewhere now so, thanks so much for the help.

Or if anyone can see how I might be mistaken on what I am due here, please tell me.

Thanks again foir all the help.
