Medicare Part B Frustration!

I did my one and one half hour wait to talk to SSA person to gain info on Part B status. She says they haven't processed yet. I say it has been over three weeks and I can't get online to check status because they have not sent me a reset code. She says a new form came out that indicates the necessity for me to include my cell phone number. I tell her I don't own a cell phone and she says I will have to keep calling to get any updates that could take from 30 - 60 days to process and a possible renewal of info and forms if I don't receive Part B card by then.

I do not understand why they need a cell phone number to e-mail reset codes to check status on line?????
