I am disabled. I have Medicare Part B on one of my parents SSDI & have my own SSI. We opted out of part b. My parents are divorced.
Normally, there is a penalty tell you are 65 if you opted out of part b. They start a new Medicare Initial Enrollment for part B once you become 65.
If I qualify for state Qualified Medical beneficiary (QMB). Would, the penalty be waived? QMB helps pay Medicare premiums, copays & deductibles?
My other parent will be eligible for Medicare Part A & Part B unless still covered by work.
Should I call social security and apply for Medicare Part A & Part B through my other parent? Since he is not drawing his Social Security yet? Would that be considered a new Medicare Initial Enrollment?
For the record I am on Dial-up.
Thank you for this information in advance.
