Medicare is divided into different "parts", namely Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. Below is a brief overview of these parts. Each part has a separate forum here to allow discussion in detail.
Part A is coverage for inpatient hospital stays, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility, home health care service, and hospice care. Another good thing: Part A is free to those who paid Medicare taxes while working!

Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient services, home health services, and some other services. Part B does cost a premium each month.

Part C is also known as Medicare Advantage. Medicare Advantage is provided by private insurance companies that Medicare approves. A Medicare Advantage plan provides all of your Plan A and Plan B coverage and many of then also provide Plan D (prescription drug coverage). Medicare pays the insurance companies a set amount to provide the services. Many of these plans are HMO's and PPO's where you must use the provider's approved doctors and hospitals.

Part D is Medicare Prescription Drug coverage. It is provided by private insurance companies that Medicare approves. Plans vary widely and like other Medicare insurance you get a chance once a year to change plans.
