The Medicare Prescription Drug program is being abused by some beneficiaries at a cost of almost $150 million in 2008. Some of patients went to at least five doctors to get multiple prescriptions of drugs that are often abused.
Drugs like oxycodone and hydrocodone were sought out by 170,000 people enrolled in Medicare Part D who went to different doctors in order to find one that would write a prescription for these painkillers.
