My mother is 73 , and worked her whole life.Father passed away & her Medicare stopped

My father worked for the State of Maryland prison system. He passed away in December 2015. My mother worked all her life , and her Medicare has stopped . I don't understand how it stopped. Does Medicare need to be renewed every year ?
My mother has dementia and I have been taking over her affairs .

Medicare does not have to be renewed each year. It only stops if payment is stopped. If she was receiving Social Security the payment would have been withheld from her monthly Social Security direct deposit.

I suggest you call 1-800-Medicare and ask them why it was stopped. Sounds like it may have been paid for by a means other than her Social Security.
