Medicare changes to help cut the budget are in the news again and this time it concerns a panel of non-partisan specialists that advises lawmakers.
Medicare's system of copayments and deductibles are under study as a way to save money. Another goal is to discourage overtreatment, something I have spoken out against before. It seems like doctors want to send you to get test after test, and a lot of them aren't needed.
Another idea is to shift some high cost beneficiaries who have both Medicare and Medicaid into managed care insurance plans, which would save money.
