Part D Late Enrollment Penalty

If you do not join a Medicare prescription drug program when you are first eligible AND you didn't have other creditable drug coverage then you will most likely pay a penalty for late enrollment, which is added to your Part D monthly premium.

So it is important to a prescription drug program when you first become eligible if you do not have other creditable coverage.

So if I have coverage through the VA , I don`t have to worry about a prescription plan and if I later want or need to change to a better plan I won`t pay a penalty ?

I actually just wrote a post on the topic of creditable coverage that answers that very question. Looks like you are on the right track!
