Dear friends,

I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People, a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. Will you add your name to mine? If this petition gets 99,999 signatures by December 15, 2016, the White House will review it and respond!

We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response.

You can view and sign the petition here:

https://wh.gov/ieNdf

Here's some more information about this petition:

Elderly and Disabled do not want any cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Disability and Food Stamp programs.

The Republican Senate and Congress want to cut benefits to all these programs that help low-income seniors and the disabled. They want to do this to offset some of the lost revenue that will happen when the give huge tax cuts to the richest people and corporations in America. We must let congress know that this is unacceptable. Anybody in congress who votes for this should not be re-elected when their term is up.

I am a 56-year-old man who is disabled. I worked very hard my whole life and paid social security and disability insurance every paycheck I received. The tax policies that are being proposed by Paul Ryan and the rest of the republicans gives huge tax breaks to the richest people and corporations in America. They plan to offset some of this lost revenue by cutting funding to social security, medicare, Medicaid and food stamps. This will make it much harder on the elderly and the disabled to survive. I didn't get a raise in my disability benefit in 2016 because the consumer price index didn't go up according to the letter I received. I am already way below the poverty level and without the help of these programs I will be homeless and unable to afford the co-payments for the drugs I need to live and the co-pays for Dr. appointments. Add that to the fact that even though my disability payments didn't go up in 2016 and might be reduced in 2017 if the republicans pass this tax policy, my rent will still go up when my lease expires. I still have to pay for insurance for my 14-year-old car. I still have to buy gas to get to my Dr. appointments and shop for food. I am already only buying the cheapest food I can find. Trying to make it to the next month's check. If you have a family member or friend that is relying on these programs, think about them and what they will be facing in the future if these tax policies are passed. Make sure you don't get hurt on the job or become disabled. And growing old if you are poor is going to be much harder on you financially. Maybe these republicans think it would be better if we all just died or commit suicide. I'm copying and pasting this because it's easier, sorry lol
P.S. I just went online and found out that I will be getting a cost of living raise to my SSDI benefit in January 2017. That raise is 0.3%, which will raise my benefit by $2.80 a month. Now I will be able to buy one more pack of turkey hot dogs a month. Unless the congress stops this before it can be put in place.
