Saving Medicare

Medicare can be saved according to Senator Joe Lieberman from Connecticut in an article presenting his plan to save Medicare. He is drafting legislation that would not privatize Medicare as the Republican plan would and he claims his plan would save 200 billion dollars over the next 10 years and extend the solvency of Medicare by another 20 years.

His plan consists of raising the age everyone is eligible to Medicare to 67 by 2025. This would be done gradually. In addition he calls for a copay on all A and B services as well as a single combined deductible for both Part A and Part B. His other ideas include raising premiums for Part B and Part D. as well as raising premiums for wealthier Americans.

To me this seems a more workable plan than the Ryan plan, which would issue vouchers and require Seniors to shop for health insurance. Medicare has worked well for nearly 50 years now, let's don't completely tear it down and start over. Just make some small, needed changes and preserve what has been working well to protect us in our golden years.

Sounds good dude, a lot better than the Republican plan. I don't trust politicians in general and the Republicans seem to want to do away with anything except the tax laws that benefit the rich people.

As far as medical care goes I wish there would be more emphasis on prevention and natural healing and we wouldn't need go to the doctor or hospital so much anyway.

It doesn't sound too good for me, for this reason: How much will it cost for private insurance for a 65 or 66 year old? Plenty, I can tell you that. Just before I went on Medicare I was paying over $1,000 a month for my health insurance, and that was with a high deductible. So if it was that for a 64 year old, it will only be higher for a 65 or 66 year old.

This is a time in your life that you are getting ready to retire, instead you are spending huge sums of money on health insurance.
