The Medicare Maze

Medicare can be very confusing when you first start learning about it. All the different parts, the eligibility requirements, strange terms (such as doughnut hole) can be daunting. However with a little reading about Medicare it will all come together and make sense.

I would recommend that anyone that will turn 65 soon go ahead and start studying about Medicare. One good thing about Medicare is all the options you have. You can tailor your plan (and your supplemental insurance) to your needs. And if you don't like some of your original decisions you can change once a year!

One thing you will find is that if you have been paying for your own health insurance prior to going on Medicare is that you will most likely save a ton of money! So that makes it worth while to put forth the effort to learn about it. While it is worthwhile and helpful to consult others (such as friends, insurance agents, etc) you really need to LEARN about it yourself because only you can decide what is right for you!

I've had medical insurance all my life through employer sponsored private plans...of course we employees contribute to the premiums. But now that I'm thinking about retiring (over65) the Medicare system seems daunting and frankly not a plan i'd like to be part of due to its limitations. In any case I do realize that I'm not wealthy enough to pay for care myself. I don't care what some folks think but it's a government plan that provides certain basic services but does not take into account OR PAY FOR innovative therapies such as PRP. Question: What fo peolle do when facing retirement and needing to access Medicare? How do we negotiate the best plan for our individual needs? Thanks
