Vision Insurance "yes Or No"?

Recently retired with vision insurance from former employer. I have done a bit of research that would indicate maybe Vision Insurance is not much of a necessity. Your thoughts please.
 
Vision plans are great when the employer is paying the premium. I've never been able to get the math to work for self-pay plans. You may already belong to an organization like 'AAA' or 'AARP' that offers vision discounts.

How likely are Eye Doctors to accept AARP discounts?
