Re: Needs Assistance For Proper Medicare Plan

Hello, I just signed up for this site. I need some advice quickly! My mom will be turning 65 next month, and Medicare is brand new to us. She was on Excellus which she paid a higher premium every month, but it covered everything. Now, she has to switch to Medicare, and we are not sure which plan would meet her specific needs. The problem lies with her medical background of extensive heart disease, 2 triple bypasses within 13 months in 2007 & 2009, 14 stents, is an insulin dependent diabetic and has breast cancer with a possibility of lung cancer. She has 7 medications that she has to take for her diabetes and heart related issues. Would it be better for her to go with Original Medicare Parts A&B, A Medigap Policy or a Medicare Advantage Plan? I also signed her up on the phone with Pace, and the operator I spoke with thinks that she is eligible for the lower cost prescription plan. I am so confused though on how to assist her, and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

You MUST sign your mother up on Medicare A + B and a Medicare supplement or Medigap plan. If you put her on a Medicare Advantage plan you will regret it due to her health condition. You will also need to sign her up for a Medicare Part D drug plan. If you sign her up for LIS or extra help for her drugs that will benefit her even more. You can do that through the socialsecurity.gov. For help deciding which supplement to choose please check out this link on supplement plan letter f.

thanks,

matt
