AARP Medigap

Well it looks like AARP has the medigap field pretty much covered. I can't turn on the TV or pick up a magazine without seeing their ads. I was wondering are they any good? Or are there better plans available? Anyone with any personal experience with the AARP plans?

I do not have any personal experience with AARP Supplement Plans although I can say I am looking closely at getting one of their Medigap plans, I haven't made up my mind yet.

I think also it matters what state you are in because not all companies write policies in all states and premiums are different according to state. The Medigap Policy search tool at the Medicare site is useful in helping you find different plans and comparing them.

Have to agree with you oldhippie about all the AARP ads everywhere. I don't know if this is good or bad. I would rather then didn't spend so much on ads and make their policies cheaper!

I have the AARP plan and like it, no problems here. I looked at several but the AARP seems to have more choices and the price is good. Have to agree with you about all those annoying ads!:@

AARP plans tend to run on the high side as far as premiums. Since all medicare supplement plans are the same (plan F is plan F no matter what company offers it), I always recommend finding the least expensive plan with a financially strong company.

I know this is my first post, but I enjoy working with seniors and welcome any questions. I am old enough to know I don't know everything, but this will also help me better serve my clients.

Thanks

The Plan N Medigap looks pretty good, I don't mind paying a small copayment for each doctor visit if it will keep my premiums down. I am looking at that after I get my Medicare card and looking at a drug program from Wellcare.

I would recommend finding a plan in your state has a lower cost. N is a good plan, but you have to remember in the med supp market, each plan F offers the same coverage as any other plan F. So if you could find a plan F; with say United of Omaha - division of Mutual of Omaha (in NC they are the least expensive this year) you would find their plan F is about as much as AARP's plan N. Why not get more coverage (Plan F vs Plan N) for your money.

Remember, your higher than normal premiums are paying for some of that advertising. When was the last time you saw Mutual of Omaha advertising a medicare supplement plan???

Good point Heather, I don't see anyone advertising much except AARP. I am really interested in Plan N. How much is Mutual of Omaha's Plan N for Florida (non-smoker).

Thank you for the link to the plan finder, it has helped me a lot. I wonder about the ratings and how they are conducted.
