Changing from Advantage to Supplement plan

I just want to ensure about one fact if i might ask.

I signed up for a $0 Advantage Plan from United Healthcare.
I am going to be 65 in January.
My coverage starts in January/2015.

I was reading on another thread Mack/M'Spits were mentioning that December 7th is the last day that one can change their plan

I will need to change to Plan N Supplement soon as its a terrific plan. However, money is an issue with me, so, i went with the Advantage. And i only plan to stay on it for 6 months.

The lady who signed me up for the plan said that since its my first Advantage plan --- i can cancel anytime and then sign up for the Plan N supplement (she said it would take about 30 days to do that). And that i can do it on ANY month in my first year.

I just want to make sure that i am not obtaining wrong information. Is it true that i can move from Advantage to Supplement any month in my first year?

Thanks for any help you can give...... bernie

Bernie,

The AEP runs from 10/15 to 12/7. During that time you are able to make changes to your coverage for the following year. When you first enroll into a Medicare Advantage plan you have a Trial Right on that plan. You are able to change to a Medicare supplement any time within that first 12 months. Here is a link to the information on Medicare.gov

Quoting the Medicare.gov site:

"If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan for the first time, and you aren’t happy with the plan, you’ll have special rights to buy a Medigap policy if you return to Original Medicare within 12 months of joining."

Don't forget that you will need to pick up a Part D drug plan as well when you join the Medigap Plan N
