I am only 50, I have 20 years into the maine retirement system. I was granted full disability from the Judge on my appeal from ssi. fortunatley i dont qualify for disability benefits because of working for the state. I do however have Medicare. Im currently insured under the obama care at a whopping $42 a month for myself, wife and son. Now that i was approved for medicare part a and b. i now have to pay $121 a month for part b for myself. that doesnt cover my meds either. financially, i took a big step backwards. Ok long story short, any ideas on Part B and D, thank you

Medicare does not cover self-administered prescription medications and only about 80% of other medical costs. Medicare supplements (Medigap) for those under age 65 are very expensive in most locations. Some choose a less expensive Medicare Advantage and Part D (MAPD) plan that has copays, coinsurance, and a provider network similar to private insurance plans. The MAPD plan may have an additional premium on top of the $121. I suggest you contact a local SHIP counselor. They specialize in helping you sort though the options available in your area and can let you know if your state offers premium assistance.

As far as your part B premium goes you can apply through your state medicaid office to see if you qualify for the Medicare Savings Program. Also you may want to apply for Extra Help through social security to get help with drug costs. You can apply here Also your state may have a pharmaceutical assistance program you can check to see if your state has one here. If none of that works you can look into the drug companies themselves for assistance. Search your drugs on this website to see what programs are available.

As far as medicare advantage programs you may have some in your area that would include your part D that have no monthly premium.
