Medicare or Freedom Blue?

PPO is a preferred provider organization.
HMO is a health maintainence organization.
PFFS is a private fee for service.

These are all types of networks for insurance companies. HMO's are what I like to think as doctors and hospitals in a fence. An HMO only allows you to see those inside the fence. A PPO will allow you to see other doctors and hospitals outside the fence, but at a higher rate. HMO and PPO are annual contracts, so doctors and hospitals are locked in to the network annually.
PFFS is a networks that allow the doctor to opt out at any time. In our area, PFFS are going away because of the changes in health care law and the fact that doctors are tired of dealing with them. I bet you will see PFFS go away in a few years. THey will disappear in the areas with less senior populations more quickly than say Florida or Texas.
Hope that helps,
Heather
