Medicare Overpays Insurers Offering Medicare Advantage

Insurance companies offering Medicare Advantage plans were overpaid as much as 3 billion dollars in 2010. The reason given was that the government's estimate for how sick the Medicare Advantage customers were was way off.

Well ain't that a kick in the teeth? The government pays insurance companies billions more than they should to provide Medicare Advantage on the one hand and on the other hand claims that "Medicare needs fixing". It isn't Medicare that needs fixing, it's the government.

So true. $3 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the $60-$100 billion that Medicare loses annually in waste and fraud.

It's almost unbelievable how much is wasted. Here's a recent article I read about overpayments and waste in regards to healthcare. I'm sure you've all seen this story repeated frequently in recent years! http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Artic...re-Wastes-Almost-50-Billion-a-Year.aspx#page1
