Medicare Planning

Got some Medicare planning questions, hoping someone with general experience can assist:
  1. Age 60, spouse 55.
  2. Retired Federal worker (FERS) with 35 years.
  3. Carried PPO HMSA (Residence is on Ohau) family plan into retirement...premiums remain same as when employed
  4. One dependent under 26 thus reason for continued HMSA medical
  5. Enrolled in FED Vision and Dental
  6. Retired Reserves, did not enroll in TRICARE Select due to having dependent under 26. TRICARE does not provide coverage beyond age 21
  7. I have 40 calendar quarters, paid medicare taxes
  8. Intention is to draw Social Security at age 62.
Assuming Medicare part A is free due to my eligibility of 40 quarters?

When I start Social Security at 62, am I automatically enrolled in Part A and B at the same time?

Do I delay part B because I carry HMSA in retirement?

Once I hit age 65, do I continue HMSA or enroll in part B if delayed at age 62? Basically stuck on what action I need to take at age 62 or 65.

Once dependent has aged out beyond 26 I intend on enrolling in TRICARE Select. Good plan? Appreciate any and all input

Thanks

Yes.

No, you will be automatically enrolled in Parts A & B at 65 if you are receiving SS benefits. You will receive your Medicare card and other information about 3 months prior. If your situation changes and you are not receiving SS benefits before 65, then you will need to apply for Parts A & B a few months before turning 65.

TRICARE becomes "TRICARE for Life" (TFL) at 65 and is secondary to original Medicare. TFL also includes prescription drug coverage equivalent to Medicare Part D so you would not need to pay for additional coverage once on Medicare.
