Medicare Part A covers Hospice Care for those with terminal illness. A doctor must certify that a person has a life expectancy of 6 months or less.

Hospice coverage includes medical, nursing and social services, drugs for pain, durable medical equipment, and counseling. Hospice care is usually given in the home or other facility where one lives, such as a nursing home.

Hospice care doesn't usually pay for room and board to stay in a facility unless the hospice medical team determines it is needed. Hospice care can continue as long as the doctor certifies that a person is terminally ill.
