Just a question. Can a doctor order any test they want on a patient? It seems like they order more lab work on people with government insurance. Do they get paid for this?

Doctors can order any test they want. That doesn't mean the insurance will pay for it, but most tests are approved if the Dr. deems them necessary.

They do not get paid for the tests (unless they have a financial interest in the testing facility).

I think they order extra tests sometimes just to cover themselves in case of a lawsuit.

Just my opinion, don't take that as fact.

Yep, just think if you were a cash customer. He could order as many tests as you were willing and able to pay for. Same thing for the insurance company. They'll pay to a point of whatever they deem reasonable.
