My retired husband is currently on my employers insurance. I'm paying over $500 more per month to carry him. While my insurance is not the best, Medicare picks up whatever my insurance doesn't pay, so we haven't been out a lot of money other than the premium. So far this year, we've paid $500 for prescriptions. We've been lucky in that he hasn't been hospitalized this year. He is a diabetic on insulin plus about 7 other medications, mostly generic. In the past, he has had open heart surgery and 3 light strokes. We have been looking at a Medicare advantage plan (PPO) with a $57 monthly premium. If he stays fairly healthy and isn't hospitalized, we looking at almost $400 savings per month. I feel silly even asking for advice, because the answer seems fairly simple with that big of a savings. My concern is that once I take him off my insurance, I can't put him back on. I keep worrying that even with the cost, would we be better served to keep him on my insurance. My husband says I over-think everything before I make a decision.
