Hi,
I'm just about to enroll in medicare next month for A and B but understand if I don't enroll in a D plan there will be penalties down the road. I currently take no prescription drugs so do I just pick the cheapest D plan or what?

Hi Boomer,

Yes, take the cheapest plan. There are plans as low as about $15 per month. You never know what is down the road and when you will need meds.

The good thing about Part D is that you can change every year during the open enrollment period with no penalty. So later if you do get on regular meds then you can change to the program that best covers the meds you are on.

But do sign up when you are first eligible or you will pay more down the road.

There are some websites that will help you find the cheapest Part D plan in your state like mine. Believe it or not, Medicare doesn't always list all of the plans on their website.
